Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki remains a legendary pediatrician and a clinician par excellence. It was because of his keen observation and meticulous record keeping that he was able to document a medical condition that was to bear his name thereafter.
He visited our centre in October 2005 along with Dr. Hirohisa Kato and left an indelible mark on all of us. He gave his oration late in the evening to a packed auditorium and received a standing ovation and a thunderous applause that went on for several minutes. This was unforgettable.
Dr. Kawasaki's visit to India had a significant role to play in increasing the awareness about Kawasaki Disease amongst physicians and pediatricians in the country.
We would always remember him for his humility, kindness and generosity.
May his soul rest in peace.
